Side Yard House by Andrew Child Architecture

In removing the old extension and siting the new contemporary addition on the south boundary, we created new light filled north facing kitchen, dining and living areas with a more useful and pleasant side yard. The floor levels of the new extension closely followed those of the site to enable an easy access and relationship with the new yard and to create distinct yet connected spaces within.

Architect’s Statement

“The owners came to us with a beautiful solid brick Federation Bungalow that had an unfortunate and dark 90’s rear extension with no connection to its west facing backyard.

In removing the old extension and siting the new contemporary addition on the south boundary, we created new light filled north facing kitchen, dining and living areas with a more useful and pleasant side yard. The floor levels of the new extension closely followed those of the site to enable an easy access and relationship with the new yard and to create distinct yet connected spaces within.”
