The Retreat by JAWS Architects

Anthony | 18.08.19

The Retreat by @jawsarchitects is a private sanctuary on the edge of Lake St Clair in Tasmania. Offering high-end accommodation, it allows you to be immersed with the surrounding landscape.

The project design is uniquely and quintessentially Tasmanian, celebrating the site’s surroundings through materiality, Tasmanian product design and artisans.

Constructed off-site in Hobart, The Retreat by @jawsarchitects was transported to site and craned into place. This helped to minimise disturbance to the site, reduce construction time and allowed for a high-quality finish.

Located at the end of a narrow private pathway, The Retreat is seen as a rather closed-off timber-clad pavilion. Once you go under to enter, you then walk up the stairs to a light-filled room with windows that focus on the surrounding bushland.
